Youth Arts Program at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario

September 15, 2016

The Youth Arts Program was launched in 2012 by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, the Honourable Dave Levac, to celebrate the incredible artistic talents of young Ontarians aged 12-18.

Each year, youth from across the province are invited to display their works of art throughout the Legislative Building, from December through March, showcasing their creativity and diverse artistic abilities.

Artwork submitted consists of a variety of media including: photography; sculptures; ceramics and pottery; drawings in ink, pencil and charcoal; acrylic, oil and watercolour paintings.

*Applications for the 2016 program will be accepted from September 10th to October 15th, 2016. Selected entries will be contacted in late October. If chosen for the display, artwork must be delivered by November 20, 2016.

Below are key FAQ's:

My artwork will not be done until after the application deadline.  Is that ok?
It is not a problem if your piece is still a work in progress when you apply.  All pieces must be received at the Legislative Building by third week in November.

Does the artwork have to follow a certain theme?

There is no theme to follow.  However, we will not accept any artwork depicting nude, violent or political images.

What kind of media will be accepted?

Artwork can fall under a wide range of media including but not limited to: painting, drawing, photography, glasswork, ceramics, textiles, sculpture and mixed media.  Please note that we cannot accommodate artwork that requires access to an electrical source.

When and where will my artwork be displayed?

Artwork will be displayed throughout the Legislative Building in exhibit cases and on display walls from the end of November through to mid-March.

What are the size restrictions for each piece?

There is no minimum size restriction. The maximum size for 2D artwork is 3’ x 4’, and the maximum size for 3D artwork is 2’ x 2’.

Students may apply online or ask Mrs. Chartrand to submit their work. Note: teachers are only about to submit a total of 15 entries; students can submit up to two entries.
